My Holiday Story Using Emoji’s

We learned how to insert an emoji into a Google document to tell our holiday story.

This is a interesting way of doing writing. It makes it easy for people to read. Sometimes a picture tells a thousand words! I found it easy to insert the emoji’s because I already knew how to do it. But getting them in the right place was a bit tricky.

What did you get up to in your holidays?

How Do 9RWH Look After Their Chromebooks?

We have been learning about how to take care of our chromebook.

We had a go at completing an Escape Room created by using a Google Form.

Something that we found (challenging, fun, interesting, surprising) was answering one of the questions that used the word ‘liquid’ rather than ‘water’ or ‘drink’. This even had Whaea Meryn frustrated that she couldn’t complete the form to escape! But Whaea Freedom figured it out first!

It is important to look after our chromebooks because they are a expensive device. They cost money. If they are looked after, they should last students for at least 3-5 years. By then they probably need to be replaced as technology has moved on and a more efficient, effective chromebook will have been manufactured.

Below is the link to our Taranaki Cluster Kawa of Care document – please click on the image. This explains how 9RWH are going to look after their devices at Waitara High.

We would love you to leave a comment!

Please tell us who you are (a greeting) and leave a comment that is positive, thoughtful and / or helpful.

If you have a question about what we have posted we will try and answer it!

Mr. W’s first go at animating

WALT: create a Google Slide Animation

  • Tell us a bit about the animation that you have created and summarise your storyline. My story is pretty basic. It tells the story of ex-Liverpool striker Fernando Torres running across the Liverpool football pitch.
  • Explain how you made the animation, including where you sourced your images / how you built your characters. I made the animation using Google Slides and free use backgrounds and PNGs. With help from Jayden, I would use Command + D (as I’m on a Macbook) to copy each slide and then move the character slightly each time. Once I felt I had moved the footballer enough, I then looked to embed it into this blog, learning about frame rates in embedded code.
  • Tell us some tips about how to create a good quality slide animation. My main tip for a really good slide animation is to move your characters less than you think you should, otherwise it can look really clunky. This will take a while, but be worth it in the end.
  • Ask a question. Given my little animation is already 14 frames long and took me about 20 minutes, how long do you think it takes to create just the most basic of animations for films like Across the Spiderverse? How much effort do you think goes into even the most simple of changes?

Keeping Ourselves Smart Online

We have been learning about the difference between private and personal information

What information is ok to share? Personal information – favourite foods. You have pets. Fun and easy things.

What should stay private? So we don’t get stalked. Keep address, birthdate and full name private.

Why is it important not to share our private information? Because people can identify.

How can personal  information be discovered? Social media, Google search and your full name.

How do you keep yourself smart online?

We are learning how to use Google tools to create a Graduate Profile Site.

9RWH have created a Google site which shows an e-Portfolio of identity information (who we are, who and where we come from, the things that we do) as well as goals (what we want) and reflections and evidence of ourselves as a learner.

Our site had to include:

TODAY’S TASK:

Today we are going to create a new blog post to show our readers around our e-Portfolio. For a quality blog post you will need to follow these steps and include these five things:

  1. a Title
    • Your title is possibly the most important part of your post!
    • It needs to be catchy and make the reader want to click to learn more!
  1. an Introduction
    • what your class have been learning about
    • Let the reader know what the focus of this post is – for feedback, to teach, to publish
    • Include a link to the information your class used to help complete this task.
  1. a Digital Learning Object (DLO) –
    • This is where you share your learning or what you have created to share your learning
    • It could be a screencastify, slide, doc, drawing, photo or any other digital object

Your Digital Learning Object (DLO) is a choice between:

  • adding screenshots of your pages and a description of each element:

THIS IS MY HOME PAGE…

THIS IS MY GOAL PAGE…

THIS IS MY EVIDENCE PAGE…

OR

  • creating a screencastify explaining the different elements of our site:

4. a Learning Reflection

  • This is where you share your thoughts about what you have learnt, what challenges you overcame and what your next learning step may be e.g. write  a few sentences about how you found creating your site – try using growth mindset questions as sentence starters
    • What you did
    • What went well/didn’t go well
    • What you enjoyed/didn’t enjoy and why

5. then finish with a Question –

  • Always sign off with a question and a thank you to make people want to comment on your post! eg.What you would like readers to comment on
